8. Applicability

This section defines the institutional and operational contexts in which chkpt is intended to operate. chkpt is a domain‑independent execution substrate designed to apply certified workflows deterministically. Its applicability spans regulated environments, audit‑heavy domains, and any context where predictable execution, admissible behaviour enforcement, and durable evidence are required.

8.1 Domain Independence

chkpt does not assume any specific domain, industry, or regulatory framework. It provides a general‑purpose execution substrate capable of applying certified workflows from diverse sectors. Domain‑specific requirements are expressed through workflow definitions and extensions, not through chkpt itself. This separation preserves chkpt’s stability and neutrality, as introduced in the Conceptual Model.

8.2 Regulated Environments

chkpt is particularly suited to regulated environments where deterministic execution, admissible behaviour enforcement, and durable evidence are essential. Examples include financial services, healthcare, public administration, and safety‑critical operations. chkpt’s execution guarantees support compliance, auditability, and long‑term accountability, as defined in the Evidence Model.

8.3 Audit‑Heavy Domains

Domains that require detailed audit trails benefit from chkpt’s evidence model. By producing complete, tamper‑resistant evidence for each execution, chkpt enables institutions to meet internal and external audit requirements without imposing additional operational burden. Audit‑heavy domains include risk management, quality assurance, and regulated decision workflows.

8.4 Workflow Extensions

Sector‑specific requirements are implemented through workflow definitions and extensions. chkpt does not embed domain logic; it applies whatever certified workflow version is provided by the adopting organisation. This separation ensures that chkpt remains stable and domain‑agnostic while supporting specialised execution requirements through externally defined workflows. Extensions operate within the deterministic execution guarantees defined in the Execution Model.

8.5 Out‑of‑Scope Uses

chkpt is not intended for use cases that require non‑deterministic behaviour, exploratory computation, or adaptive learning during execution. It is also not intended to replace governance processes, certification frameworks, or domain‑specific policy. chkpt applies certified workflows; it does not define or govern them. These boundaries preserve the strict separation between governance and execution described in the Workflow Certification Context.
